Dr. Raj C. N. Thiagarajan is an engineering researcher, innovator, and author with more than three decades of experience in advanced engineering, computational modelling, product innovation, and technology development. He is the Managing Director of ATOA Scientific Technologies Pvt Ltd, where he leads Atom TO Application technologies.
Dr. Raj holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a Master's degree in Technology, and a Ph.D. in Smart Structures. He is an alumnus of ACCET, IITB, and Cranfield University UK. His pioneering doctoral research on self-sensing carbon fibre reinforced composites using electrical resistivity measurements made significant contributions to structural health monitoring and intelligent composite structures. The research was recognized with the Safety Award in Mechanical Engineering by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), United Kingdom, acknowledging its innovation and potential impact on engineering safety.
During his distinguished career, Dr. Raj has worked with leading organizations including IITB, , DRDO, TATA, and GE Global Research, contributing to the development of innovative engineering products and advanced technologies. His expertise spans computational Multiphysics analysis, smart materials, advanced composites, nanotechnology, renewable energy systems, digital engineering, product innovation, and technology commercialization.
He is the architect of the M5 Digital Engineering Framework, integrating Multimaterial, Multifunctional, Multiscale, Multiphysics, and Multimodal engineering into a unified methodology for accelerating innovation from concept to commercialization.
Dr. Thiagarajan's research interests include smart materials and smart structures, self-sensing composites, structural health monitoring, artificial intelligence for engineering systems, digital engineering, computational Multiphysics, advanced materials, nanotechnology, energy harvesting, autonomous systems, and engineering innovation.
He has authored numerous technical publications and holds several patents. A frequent keynote speaker, industrial trainer, and visiting faculty member, he has inspired engineers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and students to adopt multidisciplinary thinking and innovation driven engineering.
